David Anthony Durham is the author of the middle grade solarpunk fantasy novels The Longest Night in Egypt (Tu Books, 2023) and The Shadow Prince (Tu Books, 2021), the adult fantasy Acacia Trilogy: The Sacred Band (Doubleday, 2011), The Other Lands (Doubleday, 2009), Acacia (Doubleday, 2011), and four historical novels: The Risen (Doubleday, 2016), Pride of Carthage (Doubleday, 2005), Walk Through Darkness (Doubleday, 2002), and Gabriel’s Story (Doubleday, 2001). His stories have appeared in five of George RR Martin’s Wild Cards novels: Pairing Up (2023), Texas Hold ‘Em (2018), High Stakes (2016), Lowball (2014), and Fort Freak (2011). Other stories have been anthologized in Unfettered III (Grim Oak Press, 2019), Unbound (Grim Oak Press, 2015), Unfettered (Grim Oak Press, 2013), in It’s All Love (ed. Marita Golden, Broadway Books, 2009), and in Gumbo: A Celebration of African American Writing (ed. Marita Golden, E. Lynn Harris, 2002). David has received the Astounding Award for Best New Writer, the Zora Neale Hurston/Richard Wright Legacy Award, and was a finalist for the Prix Imaginales (France). As a screenwriter he’s worked alongside George RR Martin, developing shows in HBO’s Game of Thrones universe. He’s worked on an animated feature film for Warner Bros Animation and written a feature film for Trioscope Studios. Currently, he’s developing an original animated series, completing a feature-length live-action film script, and writing the third book in The Shadow Prince series.
